The Recyclery was started in 2006 as a way to support sustainable communities, keep bikes out of landfills and provide cycling education and repairs. Twenty years on, the Recyclery retains this same mission while doing so through a lens of social justice and equitable access. The Recyclery has refurbished and distributed over 10,000 bikes and helped community members repair more than 28,000 of their own bikes. Along the way, the Recyclery has forged a strong community of individuals, employees and volunteers that is supportive, inclusive and valued by all.
Join us at Tailwind for Tools 2026 to help raise $20k for The Recyclery’s 20th birthday. We depend on donations from our community to support the growth and success of our beloved educational programs. While sales of refurbished bikes cover a portion of our operating expenses, your financial support can help us improve operations and empower more people to ride, repair, and enjoy bikes in Chicago!
